Legacies of Wisdom, Trust, and Excellence

A legacy of serving Rockingham County and surrounding communities, Seth M. Woodall & Associates LLC is available to serve clients in real estate transactions and closings, wills and estates, criminal and traffic matters, civil litigation, personal injury and wrongful death, and corporate and business law issues.

The Founding Partners

In 1927, Barney William Walker Sr. and Harry Fagg, set out to practice law under the name of Walker & Fagg. Soon after, Barney Walker Sr. built a practice on his own. Walker Sr. established himself as a highly accomplished attorney, and in 1965 his youngest son, James (Jimmy) Walker, joined him as a partner in Walker and Walker, until his father’s death in 1971. Barney Walker had tremendous ambition and a work ethic that backed his reputation of being trustworthy and honest.

In 1978,  the firm became Walker and Melvin. Marty Melvin joined Jimmy and they worked together until 2018.

In 2006, Seth Woodall joined the esteemed Walker & Melvin Law Firm and became partner in 2009. When Marty retired in 2018, Seth continued the firm as Seth M. Woodall & Associates, PLLC. James R. Walker, a partner since joining his father in 1965, still sits as counsel for the firm.

Continued Growth

The firm established a broad clientele from the many commercial entities flocking to the growing city. In fact, much of the early work of the firm is still evident today in the infrastructure of the city. As technology and society became increasingly complex, the firm’s practice areas have grown to accommodate emerging and expanding fields of law to become a full-service civil law firm.

In 2021, Seth Woodall expanded the firm's services to Madison. Working with noted Madison attorney Ben F. Tucker, Mr. Woodall purchased Mr. Tucker's firm and office in a restored bank building on Murphy Street. Mr.Tucker has continued to practice full-time, in addition to helping guide the attorneys and staff of Seth M. Woodall & Associates on how best to serve the Madison community.
